Ultrasound Pet Care
Ultrasound is a gentle and non-invasive tool that can be an important aid in an accurate diagnosis. It uses sound waves to create an image of the internal structure of a body. Ultrasound can be very useful when diagnosing conditions of pets that we see in our clinic.

What is Ultrasound and What Does it Do?
Ultrasound uses sound waves at a frequency that is beyond our ability to register. When combined with computer technology we can generate images of body parts and take a look inside at the internal structure. These images are created by the sound waves bouncing back off of what they encounter as the waves travel outwards. The image that is created can then be interpreted by our veterinary staff who will then provide a diagnosis on a condition, observe the extent of an injury or the size of a tumor, or see a developing fetus.
What can ultrasound be used for?
The vet at our clinic will use ultrasound primarily to:
- Monitor a pregnancy and determine the number expected in the litter
- Diagnose cancer or other diseases or health conditions
- Discover foreign objects that your pet may have swallowed
- Look for or determine the extent of a break or fracture in a bone
Simple and Pain-Free Diagnostic Tool
Ultrasound has the ability to be used in any area of your pet’s body without any discomfort for your pet. This enables the vet to take a look in delicate areas like around their eyes, allowing them to discover problems that they might not be typically be able to find. The images are produced instantaneously, allowing for immediate and accurate interpretations of your pet’s health. The best part is that sedation is not required to conduct an exam with ultrasound.
